Upcoming Mercedes-Benz models >> CLS Wagon & E 300 HYBRID

Mercedes-Benz will further improve its model portfolio with new, more attractive choices. There are worth mentioning the highly anticipated CLS Wagon and an eco-friendly E-Klasse, badged E 300 HYBRID;both of them will hit streets in the coming years.

We have recently written about a possible CLS Shooting Brake version to make its official debut sometime in 2011. New information hints at the possibility that this new Merc niche car might not be a true Shooting Brake, but, instead, stick to a conventional 4door architecture. However, the overall shape of the ConceptFASCINATION, with its very slim, dynamic and sexy silhouette, will be retained. The only things to differ from the concept will be the specific design details, that are to be borrowed directly from the new generation of the CLS-Klasse(C218), as well as the underpinnings and the engine lineup. By adopting this strategy, of going for a 4-door configuration, Mercedes-Benz will most likely position the new CLS Wagon as a direct competitor for BMW's 5er GT. Expect a preview concept to bow at this year's Mondial de l'Automobile in Paris.

According to insiders, the Mercedes-Benz VISION E 250 BLUETEC, showcased at New York Motor Show 2009, will enter series production in late 2011 as E 300 HYBRID. The model will be the carmaker's first diesel hybrid. Power will come from a 2,2 litres diesel unit producing 204 BHP, linked to an electric motor;the E 300 HYBRID will also feature lithium-ion(Li-ion) batteries. The fuel consumption targeted is at around 4.7-5.0 litres/100 km. Mercedes-Benz is said to also be in the process of developing similar versions for the ML-, GL- and GLK-Klasse, the last of them previewed in 2008 at the Geneva Motor Show as VISION GLK BLUETEC HYBRID.
